Featured Animal of the Month!
Jigger!

I realize that this may be difficult to imagine, but I am even more handsome in person than I am in my photo! My name is Jigger and I am an eight year old Great Dane and Catahoula Cattle Dog mix with gorgeous, bright blue eyes and a special need. I am deaf. I do know some sign signals, but I would love to have a family that would teach me more signs. I would like to be an only animal in my new home, and if there will be children in my new family preferably older children who understand my special need would be terrific! I am a very laid back guy who is a volunteer favorite at Friends for Life. I am current on my vaccinations, I am neutered and micro-chipped and if you believe that you are my love connection, I sure would like to meet you. Friends for Life is a wonderful place, but it's not like having a family and a home of my own.

Did you Know?

Canine Valley Fever - Most of us have heard of Valley Fever, but did you know that your dog is also at risk? Valley Fever is a fungal disease spread by pores that hide in dusty, arid soils and then become inhaled. Early symptoms in canine companions may include a dry harsh cough, fever, depression, or lack of appetite. As the disease progresses, additional symptoms such as limping or lameness, lethargy, persistent fever and weight loss may occur. Left untreated, Valley Fever can become very serious and sometimes fatal. If you suspect that your dog may have Valley Fever, schedule an appointment with your veterinarian who can perform a test for Valley Fever, and talk with you about treatment plans.

Furry Tails Can Come True

Saturday, February 28th: The auction committee is in full swing planning Furry Tails Can Come True 2009! The event will take place on Saturday, February 28th from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Arizona Golf Resort in Mesa. Furry Tails is vital to the success of Friends for Life because it is our largest single day fundraiser annually, and because it raises the funds that sustain our rescue efforts uninterrupted during the hot summer months when homeless animals need us most, and fundraising is most challenging. Please mark your calendars and invite family members and friends to join us for a fantastic evening featuring a hosted cocktail hour, live entertainment, silent and live auctions, and a delicious meal prepared by the Resort's culinary master minds. You can reserve seats now by visiting: http://furrytails2009.eventbrite.com.
